Not all honey is the same. Honey varies in colour, taste, smell, composition and, of course, in its valuable properties. All this is determined by the plants from which the bees collect nectar. Worldwide, about 300 honey rspecies valued for their different characteristics. But what kind of honey can you taste in Lithuania and what are its benefits? That's what we'll tell you.
The value of honey and its health-promoting properties depend largely on the properties of the plants from which the nectar is collected. Thus, linden Honey Honey is best for colds, buckwheat honey soothes the central nervous system, etc. The value of honey is usually determined by its antioxidant and mineral content, which can be easily determined by looking at the honey - the darker it is, the richer it is.
In Lithuania, buckwheat and lime honey are considered among the most valuable. Buckwheat honey is a rich brown honey with a strong aftertaste, rich in antioxidants and iron. Since the human body can absorb almost all the valuable substances from honey, it is highly recommended for treating anaemia and strengthening the nervous system. Lime honey - On the contrary, it is rather mild tasting, light in colour and often creamy in consistency. It is probably the most popular honey in Lithuania and is also the best known: it is soothing, helps with colds and respiratory diseases, and promotes sweating, so it should not be overused.
Among the most valuable is spring honey. Bees make it from nectar from flowers in gardens and meadows. It becomes particularly valuable if dandelion nectar dominates the spring honey. This honey then becomes a powerful weapon in the fight against colds, as it is rich in antibacterial properties. Spring honey is considered to be one of the least allergenic honeys and is therefore recommended for children. Honey also has a strong anti-inflammatory effect honeydew honey. Lipchis is the plant sap that is produced when aphids "work". It is collected and used by bees in the same way as nectar. Honeydew honey is also dark in colour because it is rich in antioxidants as well as minerals. For this reason, it is classified as a high potency honey and should not be consumed in moderation, especially by children.
There is no consensus on which honey is the most valuable. However, Buckwheat, Linden, Spring and Lipchius are distinguished as having the highest content of various substances. Honey from different plants, collected at different times, has different properties, so it is best to choose honey according to your needs and the properties you need most.
