How to prepare bee pitch extract?

bee pitch - propolis

Bee pitch (propolis) is well known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, oxidative stress-inhibiting and wound-healing properties, which we wrote about in ‘What is propolis (bee pitch), what are its benefits for us and how should it be used?’.

However, simply knowing the benefits of propolis is not enough. It is just as important to understand how to prepare it properly so that the bee glue retains as many of its valuable properties as possible and is convenient to use on a daily basis. Some people opt for an alcohol-based solution, whilst others prefer a water-based or oil-based extract, depending on where and how they plan to use propolis.

So now, we’re sharing a few recipes on how to incorporate beeswax into a healthier lifestyle. We hope that the recipe for bee propolis tincture and the tips on how to prepare bee propolis extract will help you make the most of this wonderful product of the bees to lead a healthier life.

1. Recipe for bee pitch dressing

Bee propolis extract is an alcoholic, aqueous or oil-based extract produced from propolis, used for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. Pollen is similarly valued, as it naturally enriches the daily diet with vitamins, minerals and other substances beneficial to the body.

This recipe for propolis tincture will help you make a propolis spirit solution at home. Properly prepared propolis in spirit is one of the most popular forms of propolis due to its long shelf life and the body’s ability to absorb its active ingredients effectively.

How do I dilute bee pitch with alcohol? The first step is to know the concentration of the solution you want. The most common solutions are 5 % and 10 % propolis. Thus, a 10 % solution requires 900 g of alcohol for 100 g of propolis, while a 5 % solution requires 1900 g of alcohol for the same amount of propolis.

Preparation:

  • Put the propolis and spirit in a glass container and stir well. The proportions are given above. It is best to use 70 % strength medicinal spirit. Stronger spirits can be diluted with water.
  • Place the container in a warm, dark place and stir at least a couple of times a day. The mixture can be stored in this way for at least a week.
  • After two weeks, the solution must be strained. It can then be poured into bottles and used. Properly prepared bee propolis with spirit can be stored for a very long time, as the spirit extract helps to preserve the valuable properties of propolis.

2. How to prepare bee pitch extract in water

According to scientists, aqueous propolis extract has even greater antibacterial and fungicidal properties than the ethanol-based extract. Because of these properties, bee propolis is also frequently mentioned amongst natural remedies that may help with reflux.

So, how do I prepare bee pitch extract in water?

  • After the pitch has been well crushed, pour 1:9 water over it. It can be boiled or kept in an airtight container for several days.
  • Then strain and store in a dark place.

3. How to prepare bee pitch extract in oil

The oil solution of bee pitch is less irritating to mucous membranes and is very suitable for use in the nose or on wounds.

Preparation:

  • Heat the bee pitch together with the desired natural oil (coconut, rapeseed, sunflower, almond…) in a water bath, stirring slowly. Ratio 1:20 or 1:10.
  • Heating up to 50 0C at room temperature for no more than 10 minutes or until the propolis has completely dissolved.
  • We filter out various sediments.
  • Store in a dark place or dark packaging.

We would like to remind you that bee propolis is not a medicinal product, so it cannot replace any of the medicines you need. We hope that this recipe for propolis tincture and these simple tips on how to prepare propolis extract will help you to be healthier and happier! And for those looking for more natural everyday choices, it’s worth taking a look at gummy sweets, which can be a tastier alternative to ordinary sweets.

    Hello,
I poured vodka over the bee pitch.

  3. Virginija says:

Hello, how do I use bee pitch infusion?

  4. Broliumedus says:

Sveiki, vartokite vakarais po valgomą šaukštą 🙂

  5. Marija says:

THANK YOU, IT WAS VERY USEFUL INFO

  6. Darius says:

Hello, I made a pitch infusion, but I didn’t bite it, it turned bitter .. hasn’t it lost its good properties?!

  7. Broliumedus says:

    Good evening, Darius,
Tikrai bičių pikio savybėms nepakenkė 🙂 būkite ramūs. O perkošti niekada nevėlu

  8. Audrius says:

Hi, can the spirit be replaced by mead balm Žalgiris 75%?

  9. Broliumedus says:

    Hello Audrius,
Ne, naudokite geriau medicininį spiritą 🙂 Jo tikrai galima įsigyti alkoholio parduotuvėse

  10. Saulius says:

How long can 10% solution be taken continuously?

  11. Broliumedus says:

Drąsiai vartokite du mėnesius be jokios pertraukos 🙂

Hi, I have made a decoction of 70g of 70% alcohol/30g of pitch. How to use it for stomach troubles more precisely, for better effect? Because somewhere it says to drop 20-40 drops in a glass of water/tea/milk and drink 30-60mins before meals, somewhere else to take it pure, 1 teaspoon 30-60mins before meals? Thank you.

    Hello,

    Hello,
Could you please advise how long the bee pitch extract in water can be stored in a dark place? And how many drops or a teaspoon should be taken per day? And is it better before or after meals?
    Thank you very much.
    Beautiful days

  15. Broliumedus says:

    Good afternoon,

Rekomenduojame bičių pikį gerti rytais prieš valgį, po arbatinį šaukštelį 🙂 O tinkamai ir tamsoje paruoštas bičių pikis, negęsta

Hello. First question. Is there a shelf life for the oil in the vinaigrette once it is made? Second question, if I season it by heating it with honey, does that not increase the expiry date?

  17. Broliumedus says:

Laikykite tamsioje vietoje, nuo saulės spindulių ir jam nieko neatsitiks 🙂 Nerekomenduoju gardinti medumi ir ypač medaus kaitinti. Geriau mėginkite gardinti vaistažolėmis

  18. viktorija.samoskaite says:

Hi, I have 95 % spirit, at what ratio should I dilute this spirit to get at least 70% spirit?I have 500ml of spirit.

  19. Broliumedus says:

Sveiki, įpylkite 180ml distiliuoto vandens ir turėsite norimą stiprumą 🙂

  20. sigitas.kalnietis says:

Hello. I have undiluted medicinal spirit. Can I pour undiluted bee pitch? Won’t it spoil it?

  21. Broliumedus says:

    Hello,

Sugadinsite 🙂 praskieskite medicininį spiritą distiliuotu vandeniu, kad spirito stiprumas gautųsi ne aukščiau nei 70 procentų stiprumo
